Where HAVE all the flowers gone?

I just love flowers. Today, I was strolling through the green house admiring the profusion of wild snakeshead fritillaries that we have managed to cultivate through years of hard work and perseverance. As you know, the wild snakeshead fritillaries are all imported from England. I supervised the potting of them myself during a trip to the English countryside almost 40 years ago! Can you believe it? During that trip, I was lucky enough to attend a concert by the incomparable Miss Marlene Dietrich. Thanks to the world wide interweb, I can see her again, at the touch of my fingers. Here she is for YOUR enjoyment, lo these many years later.

I believe that fresh flowers add life and pleasure to any room. I always insist my staff keep the vases in my bedroom, boudoir, office and drawing room well-stocked with fresh flowers. My mother insisted upon fresh flowers in every room of the house. I remember the huge vase in the foyer of our apartment on Park Avenue. Of course, those times are gone...but we can still keep up a few of the old traditions--albeit on a slightly smaller scale.
